Instant Idli Recipe (Made With Idli Rawa & Urad Dal Flour)



These idlis can be made in a jiffy for a quick breakfast.

Ingredients:-

Idli Rawa:- 1 Cup
Urad Dal Flour:- 1/2 Cup
Fruit salt:- 1/2 Tsp
Salt to taste


Procedure:-

1)In a large bowl, take the urad flour, add the idli rawa followed by salt. Mix the ingredients very well.

2)Add water and mix well so that a batter with the desirable consistency is formed. But do not make it too watery. Keep the batter aside for about 30 minutes.

3)Grease the idli moulds and keep aside.

4)Once the batter is ready, Add a tsp of fruit salt to the batter and mix gently.

5)Pour spoonfuls of batter in the idli moulds, you can steam cook the idlis in an idli steamer for 10-15 minutes.

Soft great idlis are ready to serve.

Answer:- Eno Fruit salt is necessary for instant version for idli, if you do not have Eno substitute with baking soda or avoid the whole thing..but the softness will be lesser and also if possible keep the batter for longer time (overnight is best)........Eno is a very popular antacid which provides instant relief from gas and acidity.Eno can be used for baking. It causes the flours to rise and can be handy in preparing lots of dishes. For all that fluffiness and softness, Eno is used in varied food preparations like pancakes, rice flour tortillas, dhoklas, khaman, rice puffs, idli, dosa etc. .....

I have idli flour, pre-made, with parboiled rice, urad, and methi. It doesn't come with instructions, and I have never made idli's before. Its a 2lb bag. I don't know how much per serving of flour, or water to add, or if I have to add baking soda. I am completely lost. The brand is chandrika masala. Please help!!!

Hi, I asked some of my blogger frnds from south and they suggested that considering it doesn't have any baking soda in it and it is a dry flour, then you might want to give a try by soaking 2 cups of the readymade mix with water ( add as much needed to make a thick pancake like batter) and let it ferment overnight and then make the idlis next morning...refer to this link for help http://www.gitsfood.com/riceidli/

Found your blog on ED on FB. Lovely space. Idlis look great. Have made idlis by mixing urad dal flour and idli rava but fermented the batter overnight. Will try your version with Eno. Could you please let me know how much Eno to use - 1/2 tsp or 1 tsp for the quantity mentioned? The ingredient list says 1/2 tsp whereas the procedure says 1 tsp. Thanks !
