What is Eno Fruit Salt
Eno fruit salt is a combination of baking soda, citric acid and soda S. It have 46% of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), 44% citric acid and 10% soda S (sodium carbonate).Eno Fruit salt is a very popular antacid which provides instant relief from gas and acidity and doesn't have any known side effects.Any patient from almost all age group (above 3 years) can benefit from the use of Eno Fruit salt without worrying about the adverse reactions.)It is easily available over the counter even in grocery shops .It is available in many different flavors.
How To Use
Just add half a tablespoon to a glass full of water and let it bubble a bit, drink it immediately and pretty soon you will get relief from acidity as when it gets mixed with water the bubbles of co2 gets produced which relieves gases. The soda neutralizes the acids in the stomach.(It is very handy after those spicy dinners after which you feel the need to calm your stomach acids. It reduces the stomach bloating and the burning sensation )
Precautions and warnings
Avoid Eno Fruit Salt if you are allergic to it or suffered to any allergic reaction in the past.According to doctors regular intake of eno salt to curb acidity can be harmful.The safety and efficacy of the use of Eno fruit salt during pregnancy and lactation is not known, consult a doctor for proper guidance.
Uses in Cooking
Eno can be used for baking. It causes the flours to rise and can be handy in preparing lots of dishes. For all that fluffiness and softness, Eno is used in varied food preparations like pancakes, rice flour tortillas, wheat flour tortillas, dhoklas, khaman, idli, dosa etc.
If you don’t have eno fruit salt while preparing a recipe, then use baking soda or mix curd with the ingredients.

ReplyDeleteMy other half drink Eno for indigestion, so there's also a bottle at home. And since I found out how Eno is a substitute for baking soda, I will have add another bottle in my pantry.
