Khus Khus Poorie ( Fried Poppy Seed Bread)

This recipe is for a banana -flavored, puffed bread. It can be served with any dry vegetable or curry

Recipe Source:- The Indian Spice Kitchen Recipe Book

Serves 4
Prep time:- 20 minutes
Cooking Time:- 30 Minutes

Ingredients:-

2 1/2 Cups All purpose Flour
1 Medium Banana
1 Tsp lemon Juice
Pinch of baking soda
salt
2 Tsp Sugar
2 Tbsp Poppy Seeds
Oil for deep frying

Procedure:-

1) Knead the flour, banana, lemon juice, baking soda, salt and sugar with just enough water to make a stiff dough. Cover and leave for 10 minutes.
2) Make equal sized balls of the dough 3/4 inch diameter. Roll each ball in a plate of poppy seeds.
3) Heat 4-5 inches of oil in a kadai or wok. Roll out each ball to a thin, even disc.
4) Gently slide the poorie into the oil and fry until puffed up and golden. Take care not to overheat the oil. Drain on a slotted spoon and remove onto paper towels.

Serve Hot...Enjoy:)

  3. Hey Preety, I like the idea of this vegan bread, but I'm having a hard time imagining the dough with 2 1/2 cups flour and only a banana to pull it together. Hmm? I might have to try this...
