Matar/Mathri

This is the popular Indian snack , In Punjab we call it Mathri/Mathi/Matar..i am not sure what it is called in other parts of India( If anyone knows then plz let me know i will add the name in my post)..My mom use to make this on every festival..

These are so easy to make and is always a crowd pleaser..The fun part is that you can make this in any shapes you like, fun project to do with the kids too( but not the frying part)..

I had this recipe written in my recipe book but was not sure from where i wrote..

Ingredients:-

All purpose flour/Maida:- 2 cups
Semolina/Sooji:- 1/2 cup
Salt:- 1tsp
Ajwain:- 1tsp
Oil:- 4tbsp
Luke Warm water:- 1/2 cup

Procedure:-

1) Place all the ingredients in a bowl except water.
2) Mix everything well , rub the flour mixture between your hands till it becomes crumbly..
3) Now add water little by little to make a stiff dough.
4) Let it rest for 5 minutes.
5) Make small balls and roll it into a small circle, prick it with the fork few times (so that they don't fluff up during frying)
5) Deep fry it in a oil.

To make the above shape, make a big ball out of the dough and roll it in a big circle (like roti)..
Now take a knife and cut it vertically first into a thin strips and then horizontally..

Serve with tea at room temperature & store it in a air tight container..Enjoy:)
