How To Clean Silver At Home Using Natural Cleaners( With Pictures)/ Cleaning Tips

Silver can quickly develop tarnish, stains or scratches.Unfortunately, store bought cleaners contain abrasives that not only remove tarnish but also strip off a thin layer of silver in the process and not to mention they may also contain corrosives and other toxic ingredients that is dangerous to your health and the environment.

Ingredients:-
1/4 cup baking soda
A few teaspoons salt
1 quart boiling water
A big Pan
Aluminum Foil
Olive Oil
Soft microfiber cloth.

Procedure:-

1) Find a pan large enough to hold your silver items and line it with aluminum foil, shiny side up.Wash items, put the items inside the pan, making sure they are touching the foil.

2) Mix the salt and baking soda in a bowl and sprinkle evenly over silver items. Pour the boiling water over it.Let me sit for 2-3 minutes.A chemical reaction that gets the black off the gravy boat.

3)Empty the water and remove your silver from the pan. Rinse each item well with hot water.

Add two to three drops of olive oil to a soft, natural fiber cloth and rub your silver pieces with it. This will dry and polish your silver, while providing a natural anti-tarnish.

Notes:-

Use care when polishing or dipping silver plated items. It is easy to wear away the thin layer of silver and cause more harm than good through over cleaning.

If you use your silverware regularly, expect to polish it just a few times a year. You'll know to polish when the item begins turning a light, gold color

Do not soak silver overnight or for a prolonged period

Do not wear rubber gloves when working with your silver as rubber is corrosive to silver.

There are some other ways also to clean the silver:-

Toothpaste: Toothpaste can also prove successful at removing tarnish from your more delicate silver items. Coat the silver with a small amount of toothpaste, add a few drops of cold water, use your hands to work the paste into a foam. An extra-soft toothbrush can be used for the stubborn tarnish in small crevices. Rinse under warm water and dry with a soft cloth.

Baking soda and water: Mix baking soda and water to make a paste, then rub silver with it.(For items which cannot be submerged in boiling water)
